     Dental CT Scan

We at "Implants Delhi" use a state-of-the-art Dental CT scanner machine right in the dental clinic to diagnose and treat our patients. The head and jaw bone is scanned in 3-D using the I-CAT cone beam imaging system, producing highly detailed computer dimensions of head, joints and airways that can be seen from any angle and also as cross-sections.

This technology betters dental imaging far beyond oral X-rays, where patients conventionally place lead aprons and hold film in the oral cavities. We use the I-CAT to diagnose a patient, find any disease, and test surgical processes in 3-D. This aids in predicting the outcome for technical processes like Dental Implants, Aesthetic Dentistry and Neuromuscular Dentistry.

Getting scans from an I-CAT scanner is extremely easy and totally comfortable. Patients who lie in its open-air chair discover that it is very different from lying down in conventional hospital CT scanners. Sitting up helps in getting the natural posture and jaw alignment and how a patient holds his/her jaw and teeth together. The scan itself takes about 20-25 seconds.

The patient has to just keep his/her head on the chinrest and let the I-CAT do its work by orbiting around the head. It produces a mere 1/50th of the radiation from a conventional CAT scan. I-CAT low-level of radiation is the same as 8 days of regular outdoor background exposure which is what one gets every day by just doing routine work.

The I-CAT scanner's eagle-eye view of bone and tooth position lets us discover problematic areas, resolve causes of patient symptoms, and plan the treatment before doing the actual procedure.

We use the I-CAT scanner as a tool for treating impacted teeth, aligning dental implants and diagnosing TMJ problems. The 3-D views can expose unusually shaped tooth, tooth root and nerve canal locations, plus chipping, changes in density, pits, cysts and even tumors.

We perform virtual surgery ahead of time to finalize better treatment alternatives and probable challenges. The science of Dental Implants has developed so we can create a template from the CT scan, allowing implant alignment so precise that we can frequently eliminate stitches.

I-CAT is an excellent tool. We can revolve any patient's head in any direction on the screen of our computer. It's astounding to see an image of your own head from all angles. The image can be taken home on a CD to show it to family and friends.

The in-clinic I-CAT scanner offers patients sophisticated technology, saves a lot of time and money, and gives a patient a better understanding of the teeth and the dental alternatives. I-CAT also saves a visit to the hospital for a normal CT scan, radiation from the I-CAT is a fraction of the normal radiation, and helps us find out tumors.

Every dental expert could benefit from a 3-D dental scanner, but high cost makes it slightly impractical. What we suggest is having at least one I-CAT machine in neighbouring areas and sharing it.
